SUPER exciting: my first exhibition...

Its in QLD, but if you are there or planning to be holidaying there at the time, consider yourself invited!!

 

The seed for this exhibition was planted by Loretta Grayson from Stella Violet on ETSY. I worked alongside Loretta on the Blue Bazaar Design team for a long time. Gee that seems like a lifetime ago now!  And she has rounded up the most amazing group of ladies with fabulous art to share. I only wish I could be there to see it all.  I will be BEGGING for photos!

There will tons of original art [including mine of course] to appreciate & purchase along with some merchandise. And Nic will be doing a workshop so be sure to check her blog for more details.

New art paintings to share...

Been working really hard over here, until the wee hours on many many nights over the last few weeks.  Of course I don't get to paint in daylight so it took a mammoth effort to finish this work.  I gave myself a mini deadline, the Henley Spring Fair last Saturday. I wanted to take a bunch of new work with me to share & I needed to get pieces resolved & done so that I had some work to send to an upcoming exhibition in QLD. Promise more details on that soon! So it was good to have an initial date to work to, to keep me on track and focussed.  I am now working to finish off my exhibition pieces and have a deadline for that too!

Anyway market was great. To set the scene, it was my nephews & nieces little primary school spring fair. Lots of rides, food, various small stalls sharing their wears. It was not an art market. I have never taken my paintings to any market before & I don't have any future plans to do so. Leaving the family for an entire day, doesn't suit us and I find I am happy with the ongoing trickle of sales I get through ETSY, which does fit nicely around our full schedule.

So, that said, I thought the spring fair was brilliant! And very worthwhile my going!  I had lots of interest, made my stall fee back many times over in sales, have several commission enquiries AND made some lovely contacts here locally, fellow artists, that I am super keen on making further contact with.  So there you go!  

I have had other approaches for markets here in Adelaide but it would need to be a very special set of circumstances for me to do another. I won't say never, but mostly my answer will be no. Exhibitions, YES! I would love to have one for my work sometime in the near future, just my work, when I feel I have the right mix of work to share. For now, I am so very happy here on my blog & in my ETSY and having this other upcoming exhibition in QLD which I know will be fabulous! You should see the line up of artists!

OK, so I have lots to upload to ETSY over the next few nights.  There will be a mix of prints & originals. Lots of new. Some finished off or reworked older pieces. Some sold originals now available as prints. Really enjoyed doing this work. I've been sketching Blythe dolls too for quite awhile. Very happy to finally get some onto canvas! Fun!

Interview with the twins...

I interviewed these two crazy rascally girls of mine a couple of months back & haven't got around to posting it yet. When I snapped these photos of them today, I thought I might just post the two together.  I think you can see from the pics they are definitely cheeky monkeys. And they keep us busy aLLLLLLLLLLL day long.  This is the last full year of having them at home as term 3 next year, they will be in fulltime pre-school with pre-entry one afternoon per week starting in term 2. Aaaghhh!!!!

Although they are full on, I am seriously going to have major withdrawals when these two move on to kindy.

 

Chelsea on left [very particular, sweet & loving, demanding, interesting, very social.  Amelia on right [the more shy of the two but definitely the boss & makes most of the decisions for both of them, quick witted, fiercely independant, fabulous sleeper, about 1 inch taller].

 

Anyway, the interview....

 

Full name [in their own words]:  Chelsea Blossom Mason. Mimi - Mimi Bluebell Mason [we'd always thought Amelia would be shortened to Millie, but she chose Mimi and it stuck].

Age:  Chels - 3yo. Mimi - 3yo + 2 minutes.

Fave colour:  Chels - red. Mimi - blue.

Fave food:  Chels - pizza. Mimi - mums chicken & vegetable stirfry.

Fave treat:  Chels - chocolate. Mimi - rainbow lollies [I have no idea what these are. Her treats are usually chocolate, cookies or fruit bars LOL].

Fave TV show:  Chels - Peppa Pig. Mimi - Octonauts.

Best friend:  Chels - Mimi. Mimi - Chelsea.

Fave backyard play thing:  Chels - swings. Mimi - swings. [fight fight fight]

Likes to draw:  Chels - Peppa Pig. Mimi - persons [hehe].

One day wants to have:  Chels - 2 babies, twin boys! Mimi - 2 babies, twin boy & girl.

Music influences:  Chels - Hannah Montana. Mimi - Abba.

Geez I adore these girlies. To think I burst into tears the day they told me I was having twins. I thought Jeff would leave me LOL  And what a journey we've had with them!!  My tiniest babies, both 4 pounds something. And now, strong little crazies!!!

God sure did send me some gifts.

In my little bubble...

There's been much going on in my little corner of the world lately & I've neglected my blog for a few weeks.

I've completed a huge new volume of work on canvas and have many more in progress. Of course I'm also bursting with inspiration to get some other stuff underway too.

This little idea (see scribbled drawing attached) popped into my head this morning as I was running around doing errands and listening to one of my all time fave songs by ColdPlay called 'trouble' on iTunes in the car. So I had to quickly sketch it out in the various spare 10 min blocks I've had today.

Rushed & way messy I know, but well thats me. So anyway, I'd like to get this started on canvas as soon as possible too.

Hopefully I'll be back soon with a school holiday wrap up & tell you all about my recent local market day AND.......

New album hopefully means they will tour Australia in 2012. I have fingers & toes all crossed. Hope they come to beautiful Adelaide. But if not, wherever they play, I will be there! I am super super super excited!

 

I never ever tire of hearing them. Fave band of all time. Yep even more fave than the Beatles. I won't go to hell for saying that will I? hehe 

Now there's something on my mind...

Have you ever heard people say, "Oh, I used to like Coldplay [or insert whatever other famous band here] before they got big but I don't really like them anymore."

I don't understand that. Do you?  Ok, so maybe tastes change, maybe bands music style develops & is no longer appealing but I don't think its just that. I think there is definitely some element of "I am cool because I liked them before they got famous" or maybe a bit of tall poppy bashing. We tend to do that in Australia.

Is it that people just like to be a non-conformist? Is that supposed to be cool or something? Because I do think its ok to like a band that also just happens to popular. I'm not jumping on any bandwagon. I LOVE their music. Makes my soul happy.

I don't know the reason for this attitude really but I've heard it alot! It always has me curious. And if I am honest, it bothers me a smidge. Anyway, glad to get it off my chest. I feel lighter. Yay!

Gazilllions + 1,378 super busy...

Hi there!

I am super busy.

I have a gazillion deadlines.

Its been a full, fun & tiring school holidays.

Today I sneezed about 1,378 times. 

I have lots of goals, plans & great hopes for the rest of this year.

I am happy.

I am tired.

I am definitely overworked.

I am in full painting production over here & am working like a demon.

I will be having my first EVER stall [for my prints & artwork] @ the Henley Spring Markets on Saturday.

I miss my blog.

I will be back soon.

I promise.

Meanwhile, please enjoy another little French girl looking out her window, illustration. She has dreams. 

Maybe its me? 

Except I'm not French.

...and has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Amazingly, she's sharing her cancer journey through her treatment with the world, whilst still blogging about other lovely things!I guess that will privide her with much needed distraction and make things still feel a little normal.  She's incredible!  

I amongst others will be doing some upcoming guest blogging for her, on her blog, just to keep things rolling & take the tiniest bit of pressure off.

And just quietly, I think her amazing young twin girls should be on Junior Masterchef with all the cooking I hear about that they do on their own.  Amazing!  What a fabulous support they will be for their mum.
