Reasons why we are looking to make adjustments/improvements.
Reasons why we got off track or into a bit of a mess.
Reasons why we need to do this.
Reasons why we should keep going.
Examining the Reasons.... thats what I want to focus on this week.
I don't want to say too much, just a few prompts. This weeks exercise / new habit is to do a little personal soul searching. To sit with the uncomfortableness of all the 'why's and think about them. And make some decisions.
So here gores....
I think its absolutely beneficial to write yourself some reasons lists. I will be doing that in my private journal too. Maybe you could also talk them over with a close family member, partner, good [non-judgemental but actually wanting to help you] friend. Maybe writing things down to get the emotions out could be your healthy habit for this week AND in the future?
Habit? Dealing with issues or accepting they can't be fixed and moving forward.
Habit? Not jeopardising healthy living plans & goals when life gets uncomfortable or using it as an excuse to get unglued.
Habit? Understanding your pitfalls, traps, weaknesses, sensitivities, bad routines etc & planning ahead to avoid them or replace your past actions with something positive.
This past week, I was able to share some repressed emotion & already I feel lighter! It was dragging me down. For me, its been so much better out, than in. Stuffing things down long term & not dealing with them, will only make for an explosion at some point down the track.
Here's a few prompts:
Reasons why we are looking to make adjustments/improvements.
Because we are unhappy with our weight, our skin, feeling tired, feeling weak, having no energy.
We want to be healthy to be more active with our kids. We want to travel in retirement.
We want to feel confident in our relationships, we want to buy new clothes, we want to feel great in clothes!
Reasons why we got off track or into a bit of a mess.
Are there things in your past you haven't addressed that maybe you should?
Not everything needs to be sorted to satisfaction. But maybe some acknowledgement of how it made you feel. How it affected your life.
Is now the time to accept what has been, take some ownership of how you have chosen to manage things in the past and harness your energy to move beyond, take action, make different & better choices in the future?
If now isn't the time, when will it be? It doesn't have to be today, but its a choice you need to make.
Because we got lazy, bored, lost.
We used food to comfort when we could have looked for other ways. We used food to celebrate, most days!
Because we couldn't face/deal with the problem, the discomfort, the stress, the trauma.
Because we used alcohol to numb, to socialize, to escape.
Reasons why we need to do this.
We don't want to be breaking hips or needing personal care in old age.
We don't want cancer or suffer from high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease....
From the little I know, cancer doesn't always discriminate but should our number be called, being fighting fit going in, surely would help somewhat.
Reasons why we should keep going.
Because we've let it slip by too many times before, because we deserve to stop worrying, to stop hating ourselves, to stop feeling awful, to stop feeling uncomfortable in our clothes.
Because we are capable of positive change. Because inside every person is capable of winning.
Because we deserve to live a fuller life & be happy. And proud.
I've started a Living to 100: Reasons Pinterest board here. I hope you can find some more inspiration to help you make good choices this week and each week that you might be struggling to hold it together.
After your soul search, and making a choice to move forward [I hope!], I'll see you on the flipside next Sunday/Monday with a special guest to talk about sleep!
