So I had big plans this year to get started on some painting commissions, start sending my illustration work out to clients, completely de-clutter the house, spend more with the kids going to the park most days, fit in some exercise, blog 2-3 times per week, drink 8 glasses of water a day, put out a Mothers Day card range.....
And already its MAY!!!!!!!!!!
I don't imagine I'm going to pull off a bunch of magic tricks & get all good habits re-installed & everything ticked off my to do list in the next few days but all in good time.
Anyway, earlier this year I created a Mothers Day card, see above! I had intended to list them in my SHOP but well, these days I'm either creating or studying in my spare minutes & adding listings to the shop isn't making the cut. I printed a bunch of test prints off at my printer and now here we are just over a week away until Mothers Day is here in Australia & they are still sitting on my desk. So I'm having a SUPER QUICK giveaway of these cards below. First in best dressed. Go! Email me to enter. Giveaway now closed! Thanks for playing along!
So yes, this year is flying. What I have been doing with my time apart from feeding the masses, avoiding housework, being with family 24/7.... is some more study on pattern design & art licensing. I absolutely love it. Its intense & a rollercoaster & I am still finding my feet working at a fast pace & to brief, plus I'm still trying to work out my style. I am loving hand drawn organic style graphics, I still of course love mixed media, painting & collage. I love it all. But I really do need to get moving on all of it. I can't just play forever.
Once upon a time I used to be able to use my ETSY shop to make me a little pocket money to buy myself nice things. These days, every cent goes into putting the kids through school, helping buy groceries & paying bills. So I really need to ramp up my work as Lachlan starts kindy next year & there's more $ we'll need to find to fund that. In order to make that happen, I am madly preparing lots of things behind the scenes.
I've put together my website, with some help from my favourite sister Jane who shifted to Wordpress a while ago & was able to quickly link me up with web hosting etc. That saved me doing a bunch of research working all that out. Thank you Janie! I've now made a new header & padded out the links & galleries. Its going to be an eternal work in progress with me updating regularly with my new art.
So this new website is a bit more professional than just a blog. This is where I can point potential clients/ art directors/ agents etc to view my portfolio galleries. You can check it out by clicking HERE.
I'm also in the process of making new business cards & product stickers. And as I've been studying I've been creating new art pieces & patterns for my portfolio. Not uploaded yet, I have so many things to share! Over the next few months, I'll also be creating a list of clients that I'd like to submit work to in the hope of selling some of my artwork to be printed on maybe fabric or scrapbooking paper or home decor... Its going to take lots of hard work creating lots of pieces, banging on doors, handling rejection & maintaining enthusiasm. But that is what it takes in the industry & I just can't imagine doing anything else.
I'm really excited for next year when I can devote a little more time to it all & maybe even start getting some pay [!] for all the hard work I'm doing. In the meantime, I hope you are enjoying reading about my journey as I juggle creating & working & treasure my precious time at home with my little daytime companion while all his big sisters are at school.
One step at a time. x
