I have 4 clever, spirited, beautiful, strong, sometimes grumpy, often shy, happy, stubborn, creative daughters that I am raising together with Jeff. I hope I raise them to know themselves, to be true to themselves, to work towards their own goals, to not put too much pressure on themselves, to laugh at themselves, to always be kind, to block out the noise of hatred, unkindness. Throughout schooling & indeed life, to walk away from drama & those girls who have nothing nice to say. To help those in need. To understand how lucky they are to live in Australia & to be compassionate & accepting towards those who do not or are new here. Only one generation ago, we were new here.
I hope they will find something to be passionate about, I hope they will find love. I want them to always know how much they are loved. I want them to be generous. To always extend the olive branch & learn to say sorry & mean it. To work hard. To relax. To use their gut instincts. To learn to make good choices for themselves and know that when they make bad ones, we will be right here for them. And indeed if they fall, they can call me at 3 o'clock in the morning & I will always come and get them. Always. I want them to always know that I am their biggest fan & will cheer them all the way.
This past week, we finally got to go to the Taylor Swift concert. We've had tickets for a year. A gift from my parents to my girls & I for Christmas last year. I hope to always be so close to my girls and that we will be lucky enough to have many more special experiences like this one. I cannot tell you how wonderful it was to share that first concert experience with my daughters. I am concert & music mad & I would love them to develop a passion for music like me. I've found that music can carry you through love, pain & shame, isolation & broken hearts like nothing else can.
Not being able to afford the official tour merchandise, we settled on one tour program for the girls to share & we made our own t-shirts at home with their favourite Taylor words & songs & they proudly wore them on the night. It was such a wonderful show & Taylor is such a good role model I believe. She had so many positive messages to share on the night.
