Hello I'm Kate [the blogger] & this is my family!
I often talk about our family goings on so thought it might be nice for you to meet us all.
So here's me - Kate - on a good day, possibly 10 kgs lighter - and with multiple Instagram filters.
When I am not feeding the troops, tidying or putting away washed clothes [the latter I constantly avoid!], I love home projects & organising. I also love to stretch out on the couch occasionally & have the kids jump all over me. I'm not a domestic goddess but if I know you are coming over I'll do my best to make things glossy! I neeeeeeeed to create stuff, its my passion.
I LOVE Blogging
Blogging appeals to the writer in me & is fabulous therapy to process all the daily goings on, dreams, past things, family memory recording etc. It links the personal life with my business life & gives my readers an insight into my world behind my artwork & illustrations.
Mainly I like to write about:
- My artwork & illustration, my kids artwork, creative living
- My family & our crazy beautiful messy life + parenting
- My quest to live to 100 - my ongoing health & fitness journey
- Home improvements, home organisation & best practice
- Thriftyness! Up-cycling, re-purposing & sustainability
- Kindness & Inspiring things
- My Blythe collection [yes kooky I know]
- My attempt to convert from foodie wannabe [not really very good] to Le Cordon Bleu cookingextraordinaire - self taught over the next 6, 9, 12 years? Hmm, maybe never.
- Technology! Yay, we are a geeky bunch here... APPLE. not PC, just APPLE, thank you! And of course I love to review all sorts of funky geeky arty techy things. As long as they appeal to me & my readers.
- And lastly list making - I am a prolific list writer
In another lifetime before 5 small humans came along...
I even had a 15 year business career. Fancy that?
- Federal government recruitment & employment services from entry level to Management
- Private sector Manager of Federal employment contracts including human resource management & training, administrative management, business organisation, marketing & database management
- Business plan/ tender/ procedural manual/ quality systems writing experience
So I've had a plethora of writing practice, I have political viewpoints on most things & a good dose of corporate experience. I can most definitely organise a chook raffle.
A wee bit boring but my experience has helped me organise a household, 5 children & run my own online business from home. For that I'm grateful.
I'm happily married to this man - Jeff
He's a keeper - and he's the country boy I always wanted to marry.
[ aka Dad, Daddy, Daddio, Joff, Joffa & Godfrey - by his late grandmother, but thats a whole other story for another time. ]
When Jeff is not working insanely hard or doing the recycling, he loves to watch TV, mostly sport, and he watches trains, and watches more TV, and eats lollies. He really really is a super hard worker & a rockstar at washing the family clothes. He's not so handy though & hates 'tidying'. He is #5 out of 10 children!!
Together we made [with huge difficulty] our very own tribe.
By clicking on their names, you can read all about their birth stories. I've been blogging since first born was only 6 weeks old. There is not terribly much detail. You see, they were all born in about 5 minutes. Planned c-sections for medical reasons. I think I got it a bit easy.
And ok yes after all that trouble, we ended up having 2 kids within 12 months, then 4 kids within 2.5 years & finished up with 5 kids in 5 years. Yes, crazy!! Yes we have our hands full. Yes, we actually have a TV! And yes, we have completed our family now!
It took us 8 years of fertility treatment to finally have success. Here they all are starting with:
Miss Georgia Poppy
Georgie is typical of a first born child; very responsible, caring, sensible, takes pride in watching over the other little ducklings & making her parents proud. A worrier like her mum. Georgia loves working with me in the studio, reading books & playing Minecraft on the iPad! She also loves school! What the?
Charlotte loves singing, dancing, jumping around & doing trampoline tricks. She is our spirited wild child with long curly hair to match but she's also the most sensitive & loving child you'll ever meet - if she lets you in. Charlotte loves getting into her pyjamas after school, & getting cosy with a book. She's also a whiz on the iPad playing Mega Run.
Twin Amelia Bluebell
Amelia loves working in the studio with me & is becoming quite the little artist! She is loving school & playing with friends. She is very sporty & wants to play basketball in the Olympics one day! She is a chatterbox & a little bit naughty. But she's fabulous so she often gets away with it. Amelia is the older twin by 2 minutes & looks out for Chelsea. But she likes having her social butterfly twin with her as she's a little more introverted. Oh and she told me she likes cake! So there you go!
Twin Chelsea [ Heartkid] Blossom
Our little Chelsea was born a complex congenital heart abnormality and you can read the complete set of posts on her amazing journey through battling for life, then 2 open heart surgeries + bowel surgery all in the first 9months of her life, by reading our heart story! Surgery one @ 5weeks here and 2nd surgery @ 9months here. These days Chels loves doing artwork, singing, dancing, playing dress ups & is usually our first to rise in the morning. She is also the one that starts having a meltdown around 6.30pm & asks to go to bed. She is mischievous, has an infectious smile & happy nature & is an inspiration to us all. One day Chelsea wants to be a doctor & work with heartkids!
And lastly our hilarious loveable little dude Lachlan Bud .
Just like his dad, Buddy loves trains! He kinda rules the house & has 4 doting older sisters. He is the only person in the house to have his own bedroom. Be kinda great if he slept in there sometimes! Most days he hangs out with me & we run errands, do chores, relax & play together. I am his personal chef & he eats all day long. I think I will employ kitchen staff once he becomes a teenager or I can kiss my own career dreams goodbye. Buddy is hilarious & a very clever & curious little boy. Because he's my baby, I will weep uncontrollably the day he leaves home for formal education. I may need sedation.
As a family, we've had our fair share of ups & downs in our lives.
Blogging has really helped me through all of it. I don't air dirty laundry in this space but I do blog about the good, the hard & the challenging stuff we face raising a family of 5 young children. But there's an absolute focus on recording the good stuff. The stuff we want to remember in years to come. If that all seems a bit "vanilla" well so be it. I am so very grateful for having a vanilla life & try not to take anything for granted. We feel very blessed with all the vanilla that we have.
Sharing our stories and connecting with people all over the world who have had similar experiences has been an absolute treasure to me & reinforces why I love being part of the blogging community. Even without that connection, its been fabulous therapy for me to just write it all down. And I absolutely love delving back into my archives now & then to see what we were doing a few years back, to see how I've grown as a parent & read what my kids were doing way back when....
